Please join us for a night of bike fueled fun. On November 23rd at the Middlesex Lounge- Geekhouse Bikes will be hosting it’s first ever CX fundraiser party. We are pulling together in support of our hit cyclocross team just before the end of a fantastic first season. We’ve been tearing up the courses and it is now time to tear up the dance floor to celebrate.
We will be raising money to cover the rest of the years race and travel fees. There will be raffle featuring prizes from all of your local favorites- and a separate drawing for the grand prize: $250 credit for a fully custom Yo Marty segmented fork with your choice of powder coat. Tickets will be sold at the event.
We hope you can join us for a one of a kind night in support of a great team and an even better season. All of the heavy hitters will be there including our star team and crew. You’ve seen the neon kits around town and on the tracks all Fall. Now get ready to see how those spandex clad machines transfer their moves to the dance floor.
We will be sharing slide shows and CX movies, boldsprints by Open, and the support of all of our great sponsors including Boston Rock Gym, Pretty Things Beer, and a host of others. We hope you can join us and that a good time will be had by all.

*UPDATE: Anybody interested in Geekhouse CX Team clothing please email Marty@geekhousebikes.com , we’re placing another order by 11/07/09. We have everything from short sleeve jersey’s, to skin suits, to jackets. Hit me up ASAP!!!
Another month in the history books at old ye geekhouse bikes. We definitely got a bunch of bikes out the door this past month and are moving through the list at a good pace now. Thanks to all those who have been patiently waiting, your beautiful new geekhouse is getting closer every day.
Emails, I love emails but sadly I cannot answer them all quickly. So I’ve hired Gregory Bamford Ralich who will be responding to a lot of inquires coming up. Greg is our newest member of the team and with his help I’ll be spending much more time fabricating, which is what I should be doing 90% of the time anyway.
Cross season is going great! We had a great presence at both the Gloucester Grand Prix and the Providence races. Also this past weekend was the Down East which I guess got a little muddy. We’ve posted a ton of pics on flickr of our CX team and I couldn’t be happier with how things are going!
Geekhouse was invited to Wentworth this past month to talk about what we do here. The architecture department there has a project on designing a Boston based bicycle manufacturing space and wanted to ask us some questions. We did a slide show and had a bunch of fun talking to the students, also we got a few laughs when I showed some pics of my kittens…Awww wubs!
Also, also a couple of weeks ago we visited both the ANT as well as the Icarus/Royal H open houses. We decided to ride 25 miles out to ANT. Where Greg and I dominated the field and won both the tricycle and track stand competitions. We then road 25 miles right back to Somerville to the Icarus/Royal H open house at the Fringe. And proceeded to get a little tipsy…;)
Also this past week we had Andy & Sandi came for a visit from Florida. They planned a trip to come up to Boston visit the Geekhouse shop and get fitted for a couple of ‘Woodville’ frames. They couldn’t have picked a better week, and we got to hang out at a bunch of events. Thanks for hanging out guys, we had a great time!
I’ve been talking with Zach from the band STS9 for a while about setting him and Hunter up with some ‘Rockcity’ frames. I’d never really heard of these guys before, but they came into town this past week and got us back stage passes to their sold-out show out the House of Blues. Joe and Greg even got to do some sick track stands. The show was nuts!!! I’m so psyched that we got to experience it. Also Joe gave Zach a pretty sick tour du Boston during the day, so I think a good times were had by all!
Also we went to the Superb opening party this past Friday. The party started out awesome and the place was packed! I got to be the judge and vote for some pretty amazing bikes (geekhouses, hehe…). But I guess because of one bad apple (Not Joe) the party got shut down by the Boston PD. We then moved the after-party to my old digs, HQ represent!!!
Finally bikes, bikes, bikes. We have a rack full of frames in progress right now. We finished Max M’s bike, got Bill B’s bike out the door. We also had a visit from Nolan who got to hang out at the shop and partake in some pizza and beer action before picking up his brand new ‘Rockcity’. Also I finally finished Vince’s sick ‘Fast Chance’ which is decked out with Sram Red and some King hubs on DT rims, and the tube set was Columbus Life. Also last but not least I finished Helen’s deluxe ‘Woodville’ complete. These bikes still take me soooooo long to assemble, but I’m pumped to have delivered the bike to Helen and Jonathan and I thank them for their patience.
Alright, now back to work. More news coming soon!

Ok I’m freshly back from Interbike! Wow, I feel like every month has been getting busier than the last. And this past month, I definitely had way too much on my plate. If we haven’t been snappy with the emails this past month I apologize, but we should be turning them out much faster coming up.
Also, for more up to the minute news please check us out on Flickr, Facebook, and Twitter. As I update those pretty regularly.
First off I want to make a post about stolen Geekhouses. Brantley got his bike stolen about a month ago from NYC. Also I’m still missing my bike from about a year and a half ago in Boston. Keep an eye out for these and contact us with any info.
I noticed a couple funny pics this month. One from Core 77 on the bottom right there a pic of a geekhouse. The other from the Boston Globe in which a photo of the Mayor Menino holding a geekhouse was photo-shopped into this architectural concept.
We’ve also been doing a bunch of powder coating on some older frames. The new Sugarcoat website is up with more info and pricing!
Also we finally got new Headbadges. These are water jet cut stainless steel. Designed by Dan StG and engineered by Aarn.
The CX team has pretty much been consuming my life this past month! But we did get our new CX team tent! Then finished the 11 CX team bikes, and then pretty much build 90% of them into complete bikes at the shop. Luckily I had a lot of help from the team, and Tom E from Superb. We got all the clothing in and parts in on time as well. With all that done we did our first race at ‘Suckabrook’. We also got one of our first podiums from Jeff B, congrats dood! I’m really happy how everything turned out and I’m also pumped that our team kits really stand out among the crowd! Thanks to Boston Rock Gym for use of the Sprinter van, our pit area was totally pro, haha!
Finally we were at Interbike all last week. We partnered with SDG components who is a CX team sponsor. We got a pretty sweet spot in the booth for most of the week. And I got to reconnect with a bunch of old friends and talk to a lot of new ones as well. Also Interbike was the official launch of the Rockcity Saddles a Geekhouse and SDG collab. These seats will retail for around $59 bucks and be available in the next couple of months.
Cool, well that’s it for now guys. Thanks and talk with you soon!
-Marty

Wow, we’ve been pretty slammed at the shop recently! I want to let everyone know that I’m running a bit behind on emails this month as we’re working on getting the Geekhouse cross team and current orders all caught up. So it might be a few days, but I respond to every email I get.
Also, check us out on twitter! I’m trying to tweet more, though I really don’t know why…;)
I’m really excited about the cross team we’re working on for the fall and since there’s too much to talk about I’m positing a whole blog entry about it soon. I do want to quickly thank our main sponsors for the year: Boston Rock Gym, PBR, Pretty Things Beer, and Miracle of Science. I also posted a rendering of the jerseys on flickr. Thanks also to Prolly for the shout out on our hats!
This past month we also had the NACCCs in Boston. And we were lucky enough to be a checkpoint in Sunday’s race in conjunction with Puma. We also had a little impromptu bbq. Thanks to all the guys who helped out! The race went off without a hitch and there were a bunch of great party’s and happenings over the whole weekend. I wish I could have hung out more and met more people but I also was trying to get a bunch done at the shop. Also thanks to the guys at Cog Mag for stopping by and checking out the shop!
I have a family tradition of doing the Major Taylor, George Street race in Worcester Ma every year with my dad and brother. This was this first year my little brother Tom beat me! Also after the announcer made a big deal that I made the bike I was riding and was the owner of Geekhouse, I proceeded to crash in front of about 300 people. Go Marty!
We were also lucky enough to be listed in a small CNN article about different styles of bikes. We were listed as the ‘hipster’. Jokingly I was telling people I should get some tighter jeans and maybe some lower v-cut tee shirts, but in reality it’s really exciting to be listed like that! So thanks to Ian Landau for including me in that piece!
Some bad news is we broke a $600 powder gun this past month. The good news is that it forced us to buy a brand new gun that coats things so much faster and better than before. Our side business Sugarcoat has been cranking out a steady amount of bike frames, and we’ll be posting more pics of those shortly.
Also, I finally convinced True Temper to make more curvy seat tubes! I’ve had so many people requesting these and only had a few left. But coming the end of Sept I’ll have a full run of these back in stock!
We also finished a bunch of bikes this month, though I sent a few out without taking pics. Ken A stopped by to see the progress on his MTB. Sean O came by and picked up his single speed Mudville. I dropped off Brandon C’s sick new Fast Chance. Also I’m almost done Jeff C’s Rockcity! And we have a whole bunch of other frames in the works.
Thanks again everybody for another great month! Stayed tuned to the blog for more news coming up.
Thanks!

Well we just finished another great month at Geekhouse bikes! Also July 11th was my 30th Bday, so I’m officially old…;) Thanks to everyone who came out to the party too. Some other big news this month is that the mustache is gone! But don’t worry I’ll be bringing it back this fall with a vengeance!
We also just got some prototype fork dropouts, and now we have a matching set on the front and rear’s. I’m not currently selling these to other builders, but I am thinking about it in the future.
Also we’re now starting to offer powder coat services under the name Sugarcoat. We’ll be redoing a bunch of old bike frames and any other metal pieces coming up. Here are some color options: 1, 2, 3. And just email info@sugarcoatboston.com with your project for a quote.
I’m also pretty busy planning a Cyclocross team for the fall. It’s going to be a regional New England team with only about 6-10 riders. I’ve hand selected a few people at the moment. But we’re also accepting applications for a few open spots on the team. There’s not a lot of time to get the planning going for this, so if anyone’s interested hit me up soon. As far as sponsorship I currenty have some plans with SRAM, SDG Components, and Thomson Components. We’re also trying to solidify sponsors so if anyone is interested in that, please shoot me an email at Marty@geekhousebikes.com .
Also for the past few years we’ve been wanting to go to the New York Bicycle Film Festival, but we’ve always been too busy to make it. This year Joe convinced me that we had to go to NYC and spend an extra day to try to go around a hit up a few shops as well. We headed down on a Friday and hit up Chari & Co, Trackstar, King Cog, NYC Velo and a few others. We also got a nice tour of the Brooklyn Machine Works. After that we exhibited at the BFF street fair and met a bunch of cool people! I really loved NYC and I can’t wait to spend some more time there soon!
Also since we moved into our current shop I’ve been sharing space with two other builders Bryan Hollingsworth from Royal H Cycles, and Ian Sutton from Icarus Cycles. These guys have recently decided to quit their day jobs and move into a larger space. We’ve had a lot of fun times this past year and a half, and I want to wish both of those guys the best of luck with their new space!
As far as bikes, I finally finished Andrea’s complete. As well as Joe A’s complete XC MTB, and of course who could forget Adrian’s Sublimated complete build. We also got the HK Fixed bike back from paint, and Henry from the UK’s bike shipped out. And Steve J’s bike is also back from paint. I was also able to build up myself a new ride. We also have a whole rack of frames in the works too.
Anyway that’s enough news for now, all these pics can be seen on our flickr. Also stayed tuned for some new projects in the works. Thanks!
-Marty

Hey guys, so we’ve had quite a bit of stuff going on this past month. We’ve officially hired a full time sales/marketing/fix anything around the shop guy, the one and only Joe Boudreau. Since Joe has been here we’ve managed to fix two machines and get the powder coat end of the shop up and running. We’re calling our powder coat services ‘Sugar Coat’ and I’m really excited about some of the projects we’ll be working on shortly.
Also now residing at the shop is our web and imaging guru Dan St.Germain. Dan has been doing freelance graphic art for a while now, but decided the shop would be more fun than his home office, and this way I can get free web updates all the time, haha!
Also this past month was full of events. I just also did a giant photo upload on our flickr page. I think we put up about 17 pages or 300 pictures today alone!
First on there we have the Blue Zebra public darkroom opening in Allston. My lovely girlfriend Andrea and my sister Katty have been spending a lot of time getting that place up and running. Check out their blog here, and email them about getting some Black and White darkroom time!
Also in the same week we had the annual Geekhouse open house. This year was really awesome, I didn’t stress out too much and we had about 200 people showed up over the course of the day and we drank about 600 beers! Many thanks to Naragansett and Pretty Things breweries for donating most of that wonderful beer!
After that we went to a bunch of memorial day bbq’s and I think I gained about 10 pounds in the last two weeks because of all the food, haha! I also put up some pics up of my sweet badmitten antics.
But in addition to all this fun, we’ve still been cranking bikes out the door. We have about 5 frames at Circle A Cycles right now getting some really sweet paint jobs. There’s Brandon C’s ‘Fast Chance’, we have a sick ‘Rockcity’ triple triangle curved seat tube bike going out to Hong Kong Fixed, a ‘Woodville’ for Andrea K , Henry in the UK got what I can only call a ‘Mudcity’ which is a cross between our fixed gear and cyclocross bikes, also we have Steve J’s ‘Mudville’, and Joel K’s ‘Woodville’. We got Adam D’s bike out the door, and this week I’m building up Joe A’s MTB, and Adrian M’s sick sublimation ‘Rockcity. Oh, and last but not least we finished the Upper Crust Pizza bike! Thanks to the guys at Open for the build on this bike and for specing the sick red tires and mag wheel, haha! Wow, that’s a lot of bikes for us!
Anyway, another great month at Geekhouse. I’m looking forward to the Summer and all the cool bikes in the works!
Thanks guys!
-Marty

Ok, so I’m a little late putting up May news… sorry about that, it’s been really busy around here! Also, I apologize if I’ve been a little slow on emails lately, but this is the busiest time of year for us so be patient, I respond to every email I get…
Also, just a quick reminder that our annual Open House will be happening on May 16th at 4pm. We were lucky enought to get a bunch of cases of Naragansett beer! As well as a select amount of Pretty Things, which I will be mostly hording to myself because that stuff is amazing! Now, I’m just hoping the weather will hold out so we can BBQ in our front lawn! Also I think I’ll be making something for the winner of the Ghetto Drome races. The only problem is you’ll have to beat me…;)
Also I think we’ll be getting a special delivery from our new Upper Crust Pizza bike at the Open House as well. I’m building the frame and the guys at Open Bicycle are getting all the parts together. And we’re really scrambling to get this thing done by the weekend, so cross your fingers.
In other news our Geekhouse Movie which is basically me building a bike, has about 16,000 views on Vimeo. Thanks again for everyone’s great feedback about the vid as well!
Another formal announcement I’d like to make is the creation of the Geekhouse Factory Cyclocross racing team. We’re going to be selecting a handful of riders all from the Northeast to be on our great new team this fall. I’ll have more info about this in the coming weeks including sponsors, team members, and other fun facts.
So, I think that’s it for now guys. Thanks and stay tuned for more news!
-Marty

Check out the new website! We’ve been cranking bikes out the door lately, but I finally managed to get the new website up and running. A big thanks to Dan StG for all his help with that. Also a big thanks to Justin Keena for his help with all the studio shots of some of our bikes.
Also check out the new ‘About‘ page for our new Geekhouse build video. A few weeks ago I got to spend the day with my buddy Steve from Quarter Productions. Steve did a really amazing job on the video, which my girlfriend has dubbed ‘machine porn’. We premered this last week at the Open grand opening and I think it did pretty well. Also, thanks to the guys at ‘This Car Up‘ for letting me use their song in this video.
New Models! We have a bunch of new models on our products page now. I just finished Lenny’s new road bikes last week and I’m really excited about the new models that we have going on.
Also, our yearly Open House is coming up on May 16th from 4pm-9pm. We’re going to have free beer, veggie burgers, and pizza and all our invited. We’re probably going do some Bold Sprints at some point in the evening after a few drinks! So everybody come on out and see the shop.
-Marty

Wow, so I’m doing multiple posts on the blog today, but I have a lot to cover from the past month. Check out the new Geekhouse drops which were just unveiled at NAHBS. These drops are totally unique to geekhouse and feature an integrated chain tensioner system. The drops will be available for most geekhouse models in the next few months. Full blog is here.
Other than that I’m back from NAHBS and trying to catch up on a million emails, a bunch of office work and touching base with a bunch of people I met at the show. Check out all the details from the show here. All in all the show was a huge success for geekhouse and I’m glad to have done it. But now I have to get back to getting that waiting list down and some beautiful bikes out the door.
And speaking of bikes out the door…The two of the show bikes from NAHBS are now up for sale on Ebay. You have your choice of the Uber Rockcity Fixed or the Uber Rockcity Free. I have the reserve set lower than I want to sell these bikes for, but I have a lot of projects coming up and I need those guys out the door. Also, while I’m at it I put on a bike that was briefly my daily ride, the final price on this bike will be a total deal for someone!
Other than that I have the 2009 Dealer price list all set so any retailers who are interested in carrying geekhouse please feel free to give me a call or shoot me an email. Thanks again guys!
-Marty
