As professional manufacturers of bicycles frames and forks we are equipped to educate you on every in, out, and nuance of TIG welding and powder coating your first bicycle. You’ll work one on one with Marty Walsh, proprietor of Geekhouse Bikes, from conception to completion.

No prior frame building, welding, or paint experience is required.

We are now accepting applications for two frame building classes during March & April of 2011. We offer a unique experience that includes specialized instruction on elements of frame building that aren’t available at other classes including: TIG welding a variety of domestic steels, powder coating and finishing, and a first-hand perspective of a hand-built business.

There are two classes available.

Class #1: Monday March 21st – Saturday March 26th

Class #2: Monday April 18th to Saturday April 23rd

Each 6-day class will cost $2700 and are on a first come first serve basis.

A non-refundable $1500 deposit is needed to secure your spot in either class.

You will walk away with a complete powder coated bicycle frame and fork.
Options for your first bike include: Track, Cyclocross, Road, Touring, or Mountain bikes; segmented and uni-crown forks; multi-color and multi-stage powder coats; component selection- ordering at discounted pricing; and more!

Q: Where do we start?
A: Between January and March an ongoing discussion between you and Marty will coordinate all the design elements so that we are prepared for you arrival with a frame drawing and the tubing and powder resources to complete your bike.

Q: Do I need any prior metal working or welding experience?
A: No. While professional level TIG welding cannot be taught in six days you will have the opportunity to work with sample steel in varying thicknesses to generate a feel for TIG welding and can receive as much help and instruction as desired while working one on one with Marty.

Q: Where will I stay?
A: You are responsible for your own housing while in the Boston area. Geekhouse is centrally located between Boston and Cambridge and can provide parking if needed.

Q: Who will I work with?
A: You will work one on one with Marty Walsh for the complete build.

Q: Are the dates negotiable?
A: The dates are set as they are based on the balance of a functioning frame building business working behind you. We’re sorry but we cannot move dates at this time.

Q: How much will it cost?
A: The complete class will cost $2700.
